HONORING A PARENT: Lessons Learned by Juana

My mother was always such an active, independent woman. I never thought she’d be like this. So I’ve become much more conscious of the aging process. But how can we anticipate or prevent any of this from happening? I think, maybe if Mom had had more vitamins and calcium….

Today, there’s so much information available. I encourage people to be more aware of everything coming out in print and on the Web, and how everything impacts us and what programs are available. I’m thinking more about myself now, and my children encourage me to be more active. Good health is a precious gift we must work to preserve.

I’ve also learned that life is so short you can’t afford to hold grudges. You only hurt yourself. Yes, we have the usual grumbling about who does what, but you have to get past it. When you’re young, you say, “I’m right! I’m not making the first step.” But when you get older, you have to be willing to let it go. So we grumble and move on. Otherwise, it won’t help anyone.
