About Victor Imbimbo

Victor Imbimbo is owner and CEO of Caring Today, LLC, a leading information and support resource for the family caregiver community.

After receiving two degrees from Purdue University, his Bachelor of Science degree in biology (1975) and his Master’s degree in business administration (1976), Victor began his career at the General Mills Corporation, working in brand management.

In 1978, he joined Miller Brewing Company’s marketing department. During his seven-year tenure, he rose through the ranks and directed all new product initiatives, including the introduction of the “cold-filtered” beer segment that generated nearly $1 billion in revenue.

After leaving Miller Brewing Company in 1985, Victor began his career as an entrepreneur by founding The Hadley Group, a marketing communications company specializing in “response” and “transactional” marketing. Hadley clients included Anheuser Busch, Borden Foods, Burger King, Coca-Cola, Gallo Winery, Hershey Foods, KFC, MasterCard, Miller Brewing Company, Nike, NYNEX/(Verizon), NutraSweet, Schering Plough, Schick, Warner Lambert, and Wyeth Labs. In 1991, Hadley received the industry’s highest honor when it was named Agency of the Year by Advertising Age Magazine.

In 1994 Victor sold Hadley to Havas Worldwide and in 1997 went on to established Bedrock Inc., a consulting firm specializing in business-to-business digital communications solutions. Bedrock developed the first web-based sales-force assistance system, FieldGear, for a division of AOL and created HealthExchange, an online product, funded by venture capital, which allowed pharmaceutical companies to facilitate their clinical trial patient recruitment needs by targeting, educating, screening, and enlisting prospective participants online.

From there, Victor moved on to TBWA Worldwide, a unit of Omnicom Group, the world's largest advertising and marketing services holding company. While at the company, he became Executive Vice President for TBWA\Chiat\Day and President for North America of TBWA\World Health, directing consumer marketing communications programs for healthcare companies, primarily within the pharmaceutical industry, and building hands-on experience working with patients and family members navigating patient wellness and support issues surrounding health conditions including Alzheimer’s Disease, Dementia, Depression, Diabetes, Epilepsy, Hyperlipidemia, Hypertension and Pain Management.

The combination of Victor’s educational background, extensive work and study of human behavior, and curiosity about building effective heath care communications programs became the foundation for his interest in and devotion to supporting the health and well-being of family caregivers—a community of nearly 45,000,000 noble individuals with considerable day-to-day needs.

80 Minutes That Can Brighten Your Life

I have always been a proponent of periodic journaling as a tool to help reduce stress: "personal" journals, "gratitude" journals, "why I can't make a 4-foot putt" journals.... The idea behind journaling is that it helps you take a step back, gather and express your thoughts, reflect on your current circumstances and put things into [...]

The Positive Power of Active Listening

Yesterday, after speaking with a friend about a personal matter, I later realized I could hardly recall any specifics from our conversation despite having initiated the chat. I was both bothered by and curious about how this could happen and whether it was truly a rare occurrence. After giving the matter some serious thought, I [...]

The ‘In’ and ‘On’ of Family Caregiving

During a board meeting I recently attended for a young company, the two talented founders were discussing an interesting management observation. They described the difficulties that arise when leaders focus on working "IN" the business and lose sight of working "ON" the business. When you're focused on working IN the business, you're working your tail [...]

Count Your Lucky Stars

I have been receiving emails and calls from family caregivers asking about all the recent stories they are seeing about happiness. To summarize their comments, there is a feeling that if attaining happiness, even intermittently, sounds so damn easy, then why are they having so much trouble being happy? Fair question, especially if you consider what [...]

Taking Charge of You

"Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass, it's about learning to dance in the rain." When I first read this quote, I wrote it off as no more than a nice message that belonged in a Hallmark card. But when I came across it again a week or so later, I started to think [...]

Better Expectations

Expectancy is a funny thing. It seems the more you focus on a specific outcome, the more attainable that outcome becomes. And nowhere is this mentality more important than it is with regards to improving the quality of life of family caregivers. I once took a high-performance driving course (don't ask me why). The instructor [...]

Your Excuse or Your Story

During the recent NBA Draft, I heard a story that caught my attention and I wanted to share it with you. Today, a lot of what we hear about professional basketball players focuses on their larger-than-life egos and their even larger paychecks. Amidst all this media hoopla, it's easy to forget about the little kid [...]

Timeout or Burnout

For many family caregivers, the word burnout has negative connotations... but for all the wrong reasons! When I speak with family caregivers, especially in support groups, they often equate burnout with failure. Never mind the ramifications that burning out can have on a caregiver's health and well-being; it's often interpreted as a sign of weakness, [...]

Am I a Health Advocate?

You are! And as a family caregiver it might just be your most important role. This past December, I was speaking to a large group of family caregivers when I asked them if they knew any heath advocates. Initially there was confusion over what an advocate was and then, later, caregivers expressed serious trepidation about [...]

The Myth of the Caregiver Superhero

When I was a little kid, I thought my dad was Superman. He built homes for a living, so I always saw him in a very physical role, in control of situations, and able to handle whatever came his way. He was, without a doubt, the protector of our family. It wasn't until I became [...]
